Semester Success

Can you believe that it’s almost the end of the spring semester? I can remember just starting out the next phase of this project back in January and since then we’ve accomplished so much! For example, just take a look at what we did in just the past two weeks:

  • Interviewed on-air with the Florida Historical Society quarterly radio program
  • Competed at the Gasparilla International Film Festival in Tampa, FL
  • Screened and presented a Q&A panel at the Southern Regional Honors Council 40th Conference
  • Won 1st place at the UCF Showcase of Undergraduate Research in the Arts & Humanities division, an award which comes with a $600 scholarship
  • Successfully raised $1,065 through our latest Kickstarter campaign thanks to donations from people like you!

We’ve done some amazing things and I know we’re just going to continue to go further in the future! All of us still involved with The Committee, including myself, Amy Simpson, Monica Monticello, Drs. Mills and Cassanello, all want to give our sincere gratitude for everyone who’s worked with us and given us the means to succeed!

Spring Update!

Get your horses together guys! We’re back and getting under way with public screenings and competitions in film festivals in order to get the word spread about our film! We’ve submitted to two festivals so far and have screenings scheduled in Tampa and Gainesville throughout February and March and we’ll let you know as we get more organized.

In the meantime, though, keep paying attention to our tumblr and Facebook pages because we’re launching a brand-new Kickstarter campaign within the next few days to help funds these screenings, festivals, and online website that will be up and running by next month!

Exciting things are ahead for us here at The Committee!

Kickstarter Update, Premiere Success, and Festivals

First off, all of us who worked on the film want to send out a big “THANK YOU” to everyone who came out to our premiere screening and supported us at our first public viewing of the film. Running at just over 26 minutes, the film seemed to be well-received by the community and we’re truly glad and appreciative for everyone who watched it. Plus, the insightful points raised and asked during the Q&A afterward only proves the dedication and ardent interest our backers have about the success of this project.

Of course, now that means we get to move into the next phase of our project: submission to film festivals, other public screenings, and awards competitions, all in the name of getting our film out there so more and more people hear about it, watch it, and learn what it’s about. The first event we’re submitting to is the College Television Awards (hosted by the Emmy’s), a very high-profile, prestigious competition, so look forward to us competing with other films in the coming months!

With all of that said, we’ll be starting a new method of keeping everyone informed about our whereabouts as we move forward: we’re getting an email contact list to be able to send out updates directly to everyone who’s interested, not just backers or people who watch our Kickstarter (of course, this and our Facebook page will always be kept updated as well if you prefer to follow us with those routes). Everyone who donated here will automatically be added to our contact list and, if you’re interested in being on it and haven’t donated, feel free to email me at logankriete@gmail.com and I’ll add you to it.

To everyone out there: have amazing, fantastic, happy holidays, from all of us at “Florida’s Purge: The Johns Committee Witch-hunt”!

Premiere Screening: TONIGHT!

In case you haven’t yet heard, our official premiere screening of Florida’s Purge: The Johns Committee Witch-hunt is tonight, Tuesday, December 6th, at 5:30pm in the Morgridge International Reading Center on UCF’s campus.

I know many of our backers, donors, and community supporters are planning on coming out to see the film and we’re hoping to have enough space to hold everyone! But don’t let that stop you: tell your friends and encourage anyone you know who has an interest in LGBTQ rights to come and watch the film!

There will be a short ceremony thanking those who helped make the film possible as well as a Q&A with some of the class members who saw the film through to its completion. Of course, the film itself is the main focus of the night and it will run about 26 minutes.

Hope to see you there!
